ARC South West Doctoral Awards (from 2026)
ARC South West is investing in the next generation of health and social care research leaders through ten new Doctoral studentships starting in Plymouth, Exeter or Bristol from September 2026. These studentships are a major element of our long-term commitment to building research capacity and leadership in applied health and care research. Each studentship includes a UKRI-matched stipend, PhD fees, annual research and training costs, and funding for open-access publication, with part-time study possible. The Doctoral Award projects align strongly with our strategic research themes, including ageing well, mental health, children and young people, dementia and neurodegeneration, prevention, research inclusion, and research methods and implementation.
Each project demonstrates strong collaboration, clear plans for impact, and meaningful patient and public involvement.
Once our PhD students have started we will provide summaries of their projects at this site.
ARC South West Postdoctoral Awards (from 2026)
These prestigious Awards provide opportunities for:
- a postdoctoral researcher to develop their experience and further their career;
- the South West to build research capacity;
- ARC South West to achieve their strategic objectives and KPIs.
In the first two years of ARC South West, we are funding two Postdoctoral Awards, one based in Exeter and one in Plymouth. The Postdoctoral Fellow will join a strong community and have time to complete their award within the funded period, even if they work less than full time. This flexibility is important to enable health and social care staff who might wish to undertake the Postdoctoral Award on a part time basis alongside other roles. Once our Postdoctoral Fellows have started we will provide summaries of their projects at this site.
