The Neonatal Oral Antibiotics at Home (NOAH) project, has been recognised in the inaugural NHS Excellence Awards, receiving second place in the South West region’s Delivering Value category.
The NHS Excellence Awards celebrate innovation, quality improvement and leadership across health and care, recognising projects that improve outcomes for patients, communities and NHS staff. More than 240 nominations were submitted from across the South West, with regional judges highlighting projects that demonstrate outstanding impact and value.
The NOAH project was commended for its innovative approach to neonatal care, enabling eligible babies to complete their course of antibiotics safely at home rather than remaining in hospital. By reducing unnecessary time spent on neonatal units, the project helps families stay together while making better use of NHS resources.
Receiving second place in the Delivering Value category recognises the project’s success in improving the experience of babies and their families, while demonstrating how research can support more efficient, high-quality care.
The recognition also highlights the impact of applied health research delivered through ARC South West, bringing together researchers, clinicians, NHS organisations and families to develop evidence that can improve services across the region and beyond.
The NHS Excellence Awards are the only awards run by, and for, the NHS. Regional champions progress to the national awards, while judges also recognised a number of highly commended projects through second and third place awards because of the exceptionally high standard of entries.
