Biography

My career and much of my life has revolved around the provision of healthcare in many settings as a carer, a patient and a provider.

Having worked as a Diagnostic Radiographer and subsequently in the Private Health Care and Pharmaceutical Sectors I became a Public Contributor as a result of my experiences caring for my mother towards the end of her life with a particular focus on appropriate management of frail older people in acute care settings and end of life care.

Prior to this I have personal experience as a research subject in early assisted conception techniques, a controversial and challenging field which led to my becoming Vice Chair of a national infertility support group, CHILD, serving on a Kings Fund Committee (The Counselling Requirements of Those Undergoing Assisted Conception-1990-1991) and campaigning on behalf of infertile men and women.

I have subsequently adopted two boys and published books on Infertility (1995 with Virgina Ironside) and Adoption (2000) for Sheldon Press.

I have been a Public Contributor for almost 10 years and amongst a wide variety of projects both local and national have served on the i4i Funding Committee of the NIHR for over 2 years.
