I joined PenPEG in 2011, interested in patient and public involvement in research after 28 years’ experience of hospital visits with my own children. During this time, I became aware that patients’ views and children’s voices were not always being heard and developed an interest in communication and services in health and social care. This interest developed and extended PPIE into dentistry for adults and paediatrics, transplants and surgery, specialist and rare diseases, mental health, thyroid conditions, women’s health, suicide risk in carers, diabetes, AI, data visualisation, health and social care.
I am interested in improving carer communication during and after hospital discharge, transplants and medication reviews. I have been involved in NIHR lay reviews, writing NICE commissioning guidelines. I have also been involved in interviewing, training, and mentoring as PPIE for medical students. After enjoying the Child Health and Maternity research team, mental health and being inspired by many Science projects, I gained my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health and Social Care (Psychology). I have extended my PPIE into being a committee member of Health and Social Care and Mental Health committees, an ORCHID member and a RCOG lay examiner and NIHR Academy reviewer this year, 2026.
