ARC South West exists to improve the health and care of patients and the public. One way that we do this is to invest in people, so they can use and generate evidence better. This is called research capacity building and is central to creating a stronger, evidence-informed health and care system. We offer a range of learning opportunities, resources, and specialist support to help people at every stage of their research and professional development journey.
From workshops that help practitioners to understand evidence (e.g. Making Sense of Evidence), to funding that allows practitioners to bring evidence into practice (e.g. knowledge mobilisation fellowships), to using data science and modelling techniques to answer practice problems (e.g. HSMA programme), to achieving meaningful patient and public involvement in research (e.g. PPIE Advice Sessions), to higher degrees (e.g. PhDs), our portfolio is designed to help turn knowledge into action and impact.

PPIE Summer School
This course combines theory, reflection, and practical exploration in a supportive learning environment. Throughout the three immersive days, you will move from foundational principles and power dynamics, through creative and relational approaches to involvement, to reflecting on leadership and culture in their own practice and the contexts in which they work.
Virtual Ideas Cafes with patients and members of the public
An opportunity to give a 5 minute pitch about your research idea followed by an informal chat with members of the Peninsula Public Engagement Group (PenPEG).
