Functional Imagery Training (FIT) is an intervention that trains patients to use imagery to support long term goal attainment. It has been used with many patient populations, however this PhD is focusing on weight management.
To support the implementation of FIT a series of mixed method studies, working with healthcare professionals and patients, will be undertaken. Furthermore the theoretical underpinning of implementation science will be drawn upon to support the process of using FIT in healthcare settings.
As part of her PhD Sarah is investigating whether a novel weight loss intervention that has been proven effective when used on a 1:1 basis is also effective when delivered online and in group settings. This is with the aim of widening the scientific evidence base for Functional Imagery Training (FIT) and investigate the most effective methods of delivery for weight loss using FIT.
The research study is looking to recruit participants who have a BMI over 30. Participants will be randomly allocated to either the FIT intervention or the NHS control group. The control group involves completing the 12 week NHS weight loss programme.
Recruitment is open until May 2022 or until recruitment target numbers have been reached, whichever is first.
